Instructor Profile

John Armstrong, CFP

John Armstrong began his career as an independent financial planner in 1987. He quickly discovered that retirement planning assistance was the single most valuable service he could provide his clients. Although most people were concerned about their retirement, few had spent time developing a solid retirement plan. He was particularly encouraged to see the dramatic improvement in retirement situation that could result from a little planning. Specializing in this area has allowed him to gain real insight into the issues that weigh on the minds of people approaching retirement.

In 1994, John began instructing retirement planning education programs. Over the years, he has worked with people from all walks of life. He understands that the goals and objectives of each person are different, and that establishing these goals and objectives is the most critical step in the planning process.

John’s presentation style is informal, conversational, and creates a relaxed classroom atmosphere. Course participants appreciate his use of real life examples to illustrate the points being made. John’s humourous flair helps keep the program lighthearted. This is particularly important, as most of the courses take place in the evening after the participants have

put in a full day’s work.

His Philosophy…

John applies the planning process to four related but distinctly different areas:

The Retirement Plan - What will we do in retirement?

The Financial Plan - How much money will we need and where will it come from?

The Investment Plan - How should we organize our finances for maximum benefit?

The Estate Plan - How will our assets be distributed after we’re gone?

Objectives must be specified for each of these areas and timeframes must be indicated where necessary.

His Commitment…

John is committed to providing real value for course attendees. He understands that their time is valuable and that on completion of the program they must feel that it was time well spent. John believes that the planning process can and should be an enjoyable experience.
